On October 23, NTT Communications announced that "OCN Emergency Earthquake Alert" would be available from October 24. This is a commercial service for consumers based on the "IPv6 Multicast Delivery of Emergency Earthquake Information" whose model experiments had been going on since December 2006. In order to receive the Alert, users need to apply for "OCN IPv6" and "OCN Emergency Earthquake Alert", and install the client application "Namazukin Desktop". The specifications for the client devices are published, and dedicated devices will come into the market by various manufacturers.
The service costs 525 yen per month (1 license per terminal device. Up to 2 licenses per OCN IPv6 subscription). No initial fee is required. Namazukin Desktop is complimentary.
